Quebec Intellectual Disability Week
The Quebec Intellectual Disability Week is celebrating its 36th anniversary from March 17 to 23, 2024. The Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the realities faced by people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones, through inclusive events across the province.
I belong!
The Quebec Intellectual Disability Society is thrilled to announce that the 36th edition of Quebec Intellectual Disability Week will be held under the inspiring theme “J’ai ma place! / I Belong!”
This slogan promotes the empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones. At the core of this idea is the commitment to allow people to express their own realities, and to make Quebec an inclusive society. At the same time, the theme “J’ai ma place! I Belong!” invites us to reflect on the place of people with intellectual disabilities in our everyday lives. Whether at work or in schools, for young and old alike, it’s important to recognize the needs and full contribution of people with intellectual disabilities.

Our 2024 provincial spokespersons
Mathieu Baron
For this year’s edition, the Quebec Intellectual Disability Week has teamed up with actor Mathieu Baron, and is promoting the role of people with an intellectual disability in all spheres of society, from school to work, from housing to social and love life.
As a caregiver to his brother Alexandre, who has an intellectual disability, Mathieu Baron is an ideal spokesperson to help recognize the place of people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones. “Every person with an intellectual disability, whether mild or severe, occupies an important place in our society. My brother is non-verbal, but he expresses himself through his great sensitivity and the affection he shows those around him. His presence is important! All the people I’ve met with intellectual disabilities bring something invaluable and unique to the community. Our society needs these qualities,” asserts Mathieu Baron.
Amélie Duranleau
Amélie Duranleau is the Executive Director of the Quebec Intellectual Disability Society. For more than 20 years, she has been committed, through her professional career, to human rights, particularly those of people with intellectual disabilities. She fosters collective advocacy by and for people with intellectual disabilities, their families and numerous organizations.
Julie Bourque
Julie Bourque has an intellectual disability and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Quebec Intellectual Disability Society. She lives in Rimouski and is passionate about working in a daycare center. Aside from her work as an intern, she loves reading, music and film, as well as dancing. She is also involved in various organizations throughout the year. Living on her own in her apartment, she would like to see more inclusion for people with disabilities in the community and in the job market. Her message is clear: everyone deserves to be treated with respect and included in society.
