Member organizations are at the heart of the work of the Quebec Intellectual Disability Society (QIDS). Across Quebec, our members support people with intellectual disabilities and their families and loved ones.

Join the QIDS and make a difference!

Becoming a member of the Quebec Intellectual Disability Society (QIDS) means enjoying many benefits while helping advance the cause.

Learn more about the different membership options and the steps to becoming a member organization of the QIDS.

The QIDS offers three membership categories.

Associate Member

Who can become an Associate Member?

Any non-profit organization or users’ committee whose mission is to defend the rights of, bring together, and represent people with intellectual disabilities, their families and loved ones, and that is approved as such by the Board of Directors.

Associate Members have voting rights at general meetings.

Membership Requirements and Process:

1. To become a member, please first complete the membership application form.
   
2. Then, send the following documents to Olivier Guérin, Member Relations and Community Engagement Advisor:
   

• A copy of your letters patent
• Your bylaws 
• A resolution from your Board of Directors confirming your organization’s commitment to :
  a) Supporting the mission and objectives of the QIDS;
  b) Complying with the QIDS bylaws and other policies and procedures;
  c) Paying the annual membership fee set by the Board of Directors within the required deadline.

3. To become an Associate Member, the non-profit organization or users’ committee must be approved by a simple majority (50% + 1) of the directors present at the Board of Directors meeting where its membership application is considered.

Supporting Member

Who can become a Supporting Member?

Any organization, corporation, association, society or group that has an interest in research and development related to people with intellectual disabilities, their families and loved ones, and that wishes to support the work of the QIDS and is approved as such by the Board of Directors.

Supporting Members do not have voting rights at general meetings.

Membership Requirements and Process:

1. To become a member, please first complete the membership application form.

3. 3. To become a Supporting Member, the application must be approved by a simple majority (50% + 1) of the directors present at the Board of Directors meeting where the application is considered.

Ad Hoc Member

Who can become an Ad Hoc Member?

Any QIDS Board of Directors member who is not appointed by an Associate Member automatically becomes an Ad Hoc Member of the QIDS upon election and for the entire duration of their term.

This status ends when the person leaves the Board of Directors.

Ad Hoc Members do not need to be approved by the Board of Directors and are not required to pay an annual membership fee.
